Torsion Springs

Australian made torsion springs

As industry-leading specialists in the fabrication of custom designed commercial and industrial torsion springs, Marsh Alliance can cater to the specific requirements of your project. We offer spring wire diameters from 0.25mm to 16mm and can customise your wire diameter, outside spring diameter, overall length, rate, maximum load, solid height, and coil count.

Our material selections include hard-drawn, galvanized steel, 304 and 316 grade stainless steel, and oil-tempered materials, tailored to suit your application needs. We can accommodate diverse production needs, from single prototypes to once-off production runs or batches in the millions.

With a production facility spanning 7,000 sqm and housing over 300 specialized machines, we ensure consistent results through our cold coiled production method and in-house stress relieving and strengthening processes.

Clients from a broad range of industries and markets rely on Marsh Alliance for their custom made torsion springs. Over the years, we have fabricated millions of torsion springs for use in garage doors, peristaltic pumps, automotive trunks, recliner chairs, mechanical clocks, window shades and everything in between.

A little bit about torsion springs

Torsion springs derive their name from the torque they produce as a load output. These springs typically possess legs that apply the load at a certain distance from the spring’s axis. The legs are rotated around the principal axis, often in a direction where the number of coils increases, as they perform more effectively in this direction compared to the unwind direction. When a torque is applied, torsion springs experience bending stresses, requiring distinct formulas for their calculation.

In comparison to compression or extension springs, torsion springs are better-suited for applications which require rotary motion or torque transmission. Extension springs and compression springs primarily generate linear forces, making them less suitable for rotational applications. Furthermore, torsion springs often offer mechanical simplicity in their design and installation. They require fewer components and can be directly integrated into a system with less complexity. Additionally, torsion springs can offer precise control over angular deflection, making them ideal for applications where a specific angular displacement or rotational movement is required, such as in various mechanical systems.
